Mission
To provide a safe environment where individuals and groups are allowed to interact, communicate and reflect with horses in a way that will promote the balance necessary to maximize the physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual realms of one’s health, and achieve optimum individual wellness.
Why Horses?
Why Horses?
For those who are familiar with horses, this question may not need asking, as they recognize and understand the capacity of horses to impact people in very powerful manners. Be it through training, horsemanship, care, or simply developing a personal relationship, horses are naturally able to affect people in meaningful ways.
Horses are large and powerful, which creates a natural opportunity for some to overcome fear and develop an improved sense of confidence. The size and power of horses are naturally intimidating for many, and accomplishing a task involving them, in spite of personal fears, not only creates confidence but also metaphors for many of life's obstacles.
Horses, like humans, are very social creatures. They have defined roles within the herd dynamic, and would prefer to be with their peers. They have distinct personalities, attitudes, and moods. They can be stubborn, defiant, and indifferent or they can be cooperative, willing and engaged. Like humans, an approach that works with one, does not always work with others. This inherent individuality helps to establish metaphors that closely mirror our daily interactions, helping to form the tools necessary to work with difficult individuals, groups, and situations.
Horses are sensitive to non-verbal communication and respond well to what we give them 'in the moment'. As a result, their responses can become familiar, often times reflecting similar interactions and responses with others. They can also assist in showing how external influences such as fears, stereotypes, dreams, interpersonal dynamics, and addictions can influence our daily lives. They become very real representations of these relationships and allow us to examine how to move toward positive change.
